Skateboarding at the Ashram

Ten skateboards, 30 kids

Suhail wanted to share his love of skateboarding with the kids at the ashram. He got together a donation of old boards and parts and somehow convinced his mother to lug a 60 pound box to India with her.

Turns out, it was well worth all the effort. He taught the children how to assemble the boards and from the time they were put together until we left, there was a non-stop chorus of “Anna (‘older brother’ – their name for Suhail), skateboarding? Anna! Skateboarding!”

It was really incredible to see the kids’ enthusiasm as they tried to get the hang of keeping their balance and keeping the board moving. Some of them caught on immediately, while others got creative and scooted around while seated on the board, two at a time.

Suhail put together a video of the whole thing, which you can check out below.

The only ones who did not enjoy the chaos, noise and erratic movements were the collection of doggies who lost one of their favorite spots to sleep.

The dogs were not quite as excited as the kids

One of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. You guys are awesome! (Though aren’t you supposed to be just sipping cocktails and lounging on the beach? Leave it you to make your time *worthwhile*). 🙂

Hats off to you both! Can’t wait to see the next adventure.
